I'm not a religious sort, but glancing at the date on this thing reminded me that Marmas is in a week.
For all you roundears who don't know what I'm talking about, Marmas is the anniversary of the birth of the founder of Haven City, a holy warrior chosen by the Precursors and blessed with special abilities enabling him to save the universe or...something.
Mostly, in my experience, he normally uses these abilities to kill people. His prerogative, of course.
[A moment of quiet while he takes a drag on a cigarette, then exhales slowly.]In other words, it's Jak's birthday in a week. I suppose celebrating it as such would be a bit outside my character, but it has always been a good excuse for a party. The bars back home gave out free drinks on Marmas--not that such an act would have any meaning here.
Still, I'm fairly certain even Erol celebrates Marmas, and there's no doubt as to his feelings toward the old regime and all its members. So
something has to be done, especially considering the likelihood of the Captain or crew assisting in its celebration is infinitesimal.
There are some traditional things that are supposed to be done, banners and the like, but I've never actually seen a
genuine Marmas celebration. The majority of Kras City's worship of the man tends to end with his supposed invention of Combat Racing.
[No, the irony isn't lost on him. Erol made Mar, Mar made combat racing, combat racing made Mizo, and Mizo made Razer, who was taken down by Jak, who is Mar. He's put a lot of thought into this, it's so convoluted it's impossible for it to be anything less than absolutely fascinating.]Now, I don't plan parties. I barely even take part in them, most of the time. The people most capable of arranging such a celebration according to tradition are hardly likely to do so--with no offense meant, Damas, you don't particular seem the partygoing type--and thus I'm at a bit of a loss.
Is there anyone from back home who actually feels they know how to throw a Marmas party?
